Towable Tiny Homes to Consider in 2017

No one would argue that 2017 has been an eventful year, but if you’re like us than at least one thing remains the same; our love of tiny homes. As the truth is that 2017 is a great a time as every to downsize and start living the tiny home lifestyle.

To get you in the right mindset, we’ve decided to put together a short list of our favourite tiny homes you can purchase (or build) this year. We’ve tried to include something for everyone in this list covering everything from affordable THOWs (tiny homes on wheels) to more luxurious towable homes that would give brick-and-mortar homes a run for their money.

Keep on reading for some of the most innovative, modern, and eye-catching tiny houses available in 2017!

Greenmoxie

Built by a Canadian company that goes by the same name, the Greenmoxie made a splash in the tiny home market this year. The home is built on a sturdy triple-axle trailer and provides its inhabitants with about 340 sq ft of living space. The exterior is covered in Shou Sugi Ban (an ancient technique of charring) treated cedar that provides robust protection from both fire and bugs.

The home is accessed by lowering a charming drawbridge style deck and entering  your personal code into the futuristic electronic combination lock. Once fully deployed, the Greenmoxie’s deck provides ample outdoor space perfect for hosting guests or just enjoying the scenery. Finally, the home boasts some impressive off-the-grid technology including rooftop solar panels, grey water recycling, as well as rainwater collection.

You can invest in your very own Greenmoxie for around US$75,000.

Revolve House

Born out of the SMUD Tiny House Competition in Sacramento, California, the Revolve house was designed by Santa Clara University students and gets its name for a unique rotating solar array that actually follows the sun.

The Revolve House is constructed using several structural insulated panels (SIPs) that are finished with beautiful grey siding and provides 238 sq ft of livable interior space. The home comes equipped with a complete and compact kitchen, a spacious dining area, a wet-room bathroom, and a convertible lounge/bedroom the cleverly uses a Murphy-style hidden bed. Finally, the ‘ pièce de résistance’ can be found by following an exterior staircase up to a truly unique (and spacious) rooftop deck.

The home was designed to get all its power from the roof-based solar array and boasts some pretty impressive tech to make that goal a reality. The university team responsible for the project integrated a high tech sun tracking system that ensure the system is always getting the most sun possible.

Moon Dragon

Based in Olympia, Washington, Zyl Vardos is a tiny home specialist that know what it takes to create functional and charming tiny houses. The Moon Dragon provide a perfect example of how practical and whimsical can come together to create something truly unique.

The first thing you’ll notice about the Moon Dragon is it’s distinct curved roof that, while providing character, also serves a practical purpose of increase internal living space. The roof is covered Onduvilla shingles and the interior combines several luxurious materials to create a warm and welcoming space. It provides inhabitants with approximately 220 sq. ft. though the aforementioned ‘curved’ design makes it feel much bigger.

The Moon Dragon provides lots of options for power and water with standard RV connections as well as a solar kit for when you’re feeling adventurous. This towable unit can be yours for around US$96,000.

Vista

Escape has been part of the tiny home community for years now, and the truth is everything the firm produces is worth mentioning. Vista is no exception and it’s one of favourites for perfectly balancing the three pillars of a tiny home; features, size, and price.

Vista is actually one of Escape’s smaller homes but it definitely doesn’t disappoint with obvious care put into to every detail. The home is the perfect choice for a couple or single person keen to embrace the tiny home movement.

The Vista measures provides just about 160 sq ft  of living space and a very inviting interior. Despite the very small footprint Escape has been able to include all the amenities you might need including a kitchen, dining/ living area, bathroom, and bedroom area .

If you looking for off grid living the Vista can also be equipped with a rooftop solar array and battery packs to keep the lights on even in the most remote locations.

The Vista can be yours for as little as US$46,600.

  6. I grew up in a 2 bedroom with 10 siblings and 2 parents. I know what tiny means. I’m now enjoying the luxury of more space but continues to be fascinated with tiny homes. I’ve introduced it to my older son as a starter house and so he could be debt free. However, I don’t see much in the Connecticut area. Are there any thoughts of expanding to this area in the near future?
