Hundreds gathered at the Great American Tiny House Show on the Florida State Fairgrounds this weekend to learn about the growing tiny home trend.
Couples like Brandy and Brad Melton featured in the video above decided they wanted to come to see what pint-sized living was really like.
“I think you have to at least try it. Most people don’t realize how much they can downsize until they actually do it. We also don’t need as much space as we think we do,” said Brandy Melton.
The Meltons are interested in tiny homes for the ease of travel and the positive environmental factors that downsizing can have.
On the builder side, Tom Ryals from Humming Bird Tiny Housing was at the show to show off their latest tiny home creations. Tom and his wife start building high end luxury tiny homes almost 10 years ago.
“Our customers range from college student to retirees. It is just a way of life people are looking to get,” said Ryals.
As mentioned earlier his models were deluxe with the model above costing around $100,000 and is just 306 square feet.
Ryals feels this tiny trend will go big.
“This is a real, true-to-life industry. In my opinion, it will overtake the RV industry in the next 10 years,” he said.
Though this was the first year of the Great American Tiny House Show at the fairgrounds, organizers have shared that the event was a big success and will be back again next year.
